Krispy Kreme Awards Franchise to Baseball Hall-of-Famer Hank Aaron WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (June 5, 2002) - Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. announced it has awarded a franchise to baseball legend Henry "Hank" Aaron. Under the agreement, Mr. Aaron's company, 755 Doughnut Corp., will operate one Krispy Kreme store located at 633 Evans Street in Atlanta, GA.755 Doughnut Corp., whose name represents Aaron's all-time home run record, is owned by 755 Restaurant Corp. which has been a successful restaurant operator since the mid-90s. In addition to this new partnership with Krispy Kreme, the company currently operates 13 Church's Chicken and 3 Popeyes franchises in Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC. Mr. Aaron also built and operated a multi-unit Arby's franchise operation in Milwaukee, WI, which was recently sold. Scott Livengood, Krispy Kreme Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer said, "This is a great opportunity for Krispy Kreme to establish a strong partnership with a company that has proven restaurant operating experience and an all-American icon. Mr. Aaron echoed Livengood's sentiments, saying, "I'm so thrilled to be working with Krispy Kreme to bring a new store to Atlanta's West End area. This partnership not only brings a great, new Krispy Kreme hot doughnut experience to customers in Atlanta, but also creates important jobs and opportunities for this West End neighborhood." This new Krispy Kreme location is scheduled to open on Tuesday, June 25 at 5:30 a.m. It will replace the store that is currently located one block East on Evans Street, which is scheduled to close June 9, 2002. It will be a full- service store, producing hot doughnuts, serving an expanded beverage line and offering 24-hour drive-thru service. Krispy Kreme currently has seven additional locations in Atlanta. Henry "Hank" Aaron also serves as Senior Vice President of Atlanta National League Baseball Club, Inc. and Vice President of Business Development for the CNN Airport Network. Prior to these positions, Mr. Aaron enjoyed a 23-year major league baseball career. He holds more major league batting records than any other player in the game's history, including most home runs, lifetime (755) and most runs batted in, lifetime (2,297). On May 17, 1970, Aaron became the first player to compile both 3,000 career hits and more than 400 homers. Along with Frank Robinson, Aaron was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, NY on August 1, 1982. Along with his wife Billye, Mr. Aaron is the co-founder of The Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation. The foundation provides opportunities for children ages 9-12 to pursue their dreams in areas in which they have shown early ability.
